Established only a few years ago our client are the 'New Pretender' on the scene. Turning over north of £20 million this year. A skinny overhead with Senior leaders who have great relationships. 80% of it is London based commercial offices mainly for landlords. 20% is healthcare fitout for NHS Trusts. It’s all relationship orientated. They started out doing dilaps BUT now they are doing proper cat A’s with the biggest won and delivered last year being £2 million. The key is to keep the real overhead sub 4% and the supply chain trusted and paid well. Deliver great work and get recommended on the next one...
Simple... The work is identified priced and bid through 3 contracts managers. One is Commercial the other Ops by background.
This won’t suit a corporate type or a major contractor’s man used to working in big teams. This would suit an entrepreneurial type.
POSITION:
THEY SEEK
They seek an Estimator who is experienced working within a small team. This is the type of company that for the right person they can be agile. With options to work from home if required.
They need someone who self-reliant, who can visit sites, raise questions. They will be apart of bids around every 2 weeks, so across approximately 20 jobs per year
Key responsibilities:
You will have previous experience managing the cost base from invitation to tender, submission of price through to presenting to the client and completion, you will need experience from inception through to handover, committed with a proactive approach to
work ‘win’. Will go above and beyond in getting best price or competitive advantage. Demonstrating you can turn around a minimum of a decent levelling up exercise.
- Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates for projects, including new builds, fit outs , and refurbishments.
- Analyse project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to understand project requirements and scope of work.
- Source and review subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure competitiveness and accuracy in pricing.
- Provide input on construction methodologies, materials selection, and procurement strategies to support cost-effective project delivery.
- Prepare and present cost estimates to clients, highlighting key cost drivers, assumptions, and potential risks.
- Driving continuous improvement of their tender processes
- Managing all tenders though an internal tender adjudication process
- Coordinating and preparing for pre, mid and post tender client meetings, workshops, and interviews.

Required Skills and Experience
• Education: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred. Not essential
• Technical Proficiency: Understanding of M&E systems & packages, construction methods, and industry best practices.
• Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and numerical skills, with a keen eye for detail.
• Software Skills: Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam) and MS Office Suite.
• Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
• Organisational Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to identify potential issues and develop effective solutions proactively.
