Seeking a Design Manager to be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day tasks associated with a £7m refurbishment project at London Stansted.
Job Description:
Our Client is a refurbishment and interiors specialist in London and the South East, whose work is driven by collaboration and creativity. Creating innovative spaces across multiple sectors; commercial, education, health, retail and hospitality.
Our Client has an outstanding team with a solid track record for consistently delivering high quality CAT A and CAT B projects.
Project sizes are diverse with project values up to £10million and typically tendering against the likes of Waterlily, Collins, Faithdean and Red and 8 Build in the heavier refurbishment arena. But of the £27 million they achieved this year with £40 million of orders carried into next, £7 million of it is Airport Framework at Stanstead.
They live on the small works framework which includes all airside and landside work and has a projected turnover of £15 million next year.
The team based there is 10 strong including TSM, Commercial and Operations embedded with the client. It’s a mixture of BAU (Business as Usual) and TP (Transformation Plan) the former is general churn work around the airport between £1-4 million. This has included washrooms in
Departures and Arrivals, Domestic reclaim (Security stations) and major security door replacements. The latter is the preparatory or temporary works packages needed over the next 48 months to ensure the major project won by LOR ensuring a volume capacity of 50% increase is ready to go..
You will hold a proven track record in delivering, being the design lead, fit out and gutsy structural alterations across high level, high risk commercial buildings in London. With the understanding of building processes and procedures against building regulations. You should be commercially aware and support the commercial team to identify opportunities arising from design development and equally, manage change control communication that arises from design development. Be a key contributor to architectural exercises during both tender and pre-construction phases of a project.
Reporting into the Design Lead you will collaborate with the design team for technical solutions and pitching support. You will identify, report and resolve potential problems in conjunction with the Project Lead, monitoring the service installation progress, quality and compliance with drawings and specifications.
As a Design Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day tasks associated with £7m refurbishment project at London Stanstead.
This includes managing and coordinating the design and sub-contractors, reviewing and approving drawings, providing support in the tender process and attending interviews to secure new work.
Managing and leading the design process using his/her commercial, contractual, programme/time awareness, value engineering and technical expertise. Creation of full phase construction programmes. Work collaboratively with a full design team
Supporting, understanding and advising the client as to the requirements and his/her obligations in the development of a building design.
Tender preparation and presentation with core client facing skills
Ensuring the design process recognises current legislation, building regulations and codes of practice, where appropriate.
Procurement of materials and labour
Sequencing and detailing the build methodology
Ensuring design information is of the right quality and keeps pace with project timescales.
Striving to eliminate health and safety risks in the design and financial risks during construction.
